CRPF: Central Reserve Police Force

CRPF stands for Central Reserve Police Force ( CRPF). The paramilitary unit that is the biggest Central Armed Police Force in India. CRPF is part of the Ministry of Home Affairs of the Governmentof India. Its main objective is to aid the state or union territories governmentsin maintaining law and order within their respective regions. The headquarters of the organization are located situated in New Delhi, India. India's government India has set up the CRPR academy to provide instruction to students who want be part of the CRPF. As of July 2017, Sh Rajeev Rai Bhatnagar is the Director General of CRPF.

• The name CRPF is a relic of"the" Crown Representative's Police (CRP) which was created on July 27th 1939, to protect British citizens who resided in the states that are at risk to India.
• In 1949, under the CRPF Act in 1949, the CRP was changed to CRPF.
• On the 21st of October 1959, a small CRPF Patrol was attacked the Chinese soldiers. Twenty of the CRPF soldiers took ontheir lives to defend the nation. To commemorate the martyrdom of these soldiers, the date of October 21 is recognized to be Police CommemorationDay.
• The 1960s saw many police departments in states joined forces with CRPF.
• Until 1965, CRPF was guarding the border between India and Pakistan. The following year, BSF was deployed to ensure the security of the border.
• It played a crucial role in securing the security of militants in Punjab in the 1980s and also in the insurgency that took place at Tripura in the 1990s.
• In 1992, a special section of CRPF (Rapid Action Force) was established by the conversion of 10 battalions that were not attached to CRPF to fight disturbances.
• The year was 1986. the first Mahila Battalion in CRPF, the 88(M) Bn, was created to handle women's issues.
